What We Weave
a poetic libretto of sculptural art and cheritas
by Karen Pierce Gonzalez
recycled
painted and poised
springs
rescued
from a seat
broken by time
--------
sculpture
now webbed
captures summer -
its warm glow
a dance
of morning light
--------
woven silk
builds
a jungle-gym
playful threads
crisscross
at sunset
--------
hopscotch
spiders spin-weave
in all directions
with awe I watch
this race -
an act of nature
--------
tabletop surprise
becomes a lure
spiders decorate
to attract
friend
and prey alike
--------
in seasons of rain
the work
disappears
harsh wet winds
push and pull spiders
to start over again
--------
relentless
spiders build bridges
mid-air
link poles
to design new patterns
on mine
--------
silent
we both work
with tools given
and
in such moments
find common ground
--------
