The Burning by Marvinlouis Dorsey

The

Burning

a

Bobby John press

Poetic Libretto

Wal-

king

into

smoke

jokin

with

my-

self

found

there

was

thin

line

be-

tween

bein

nervous

and

bein

ex-

cited

Know

this lady

she lives

down wind

bil-

lowing

toxic cloud

thou-

sands

gas tanks

old tires

front back

seats

front back

bumpers

on fire

she

closed

her

win-

dows

prayed

some-

one

on loud

speaker

ordered

people to

shelter

in place

This

is a five

alarm fire

its

108

in high

desert

we

have

ex-

plosions

intense

heat

they keep

pouring

water

on the

mon-

sta

its not a fish so

they drown it

heard a captain say

keep your guys

hy-

drated

we will be here

all night

What

does it

take

to

put out

a blaze

when

only

few

can

see

flames

know

what’s

on fire

what’s

burning

what’s

going up

yon-

der

This

snake

has rubber

skin

its

bowels

are filled

with water

its

has

multiple

beginnings

only

one

ending

soon

ta be

pile

soggy

ashes

who

finds

hidden

stashes

in

pud-

dles

The

heat

coming

off that

wall

visual

effect

streams

H2O

va-

por-

izing

not

afraid

there’s

no-

shade

when

clear blue

sky has been

turned into a smoke

box

got

as

close

as could be

then ran

Cool

calm

then

col-

lec-

ted

this

is my

job

i

am

not

a-

fraid

to

risk

my

life

saving

you

your

pets

your

stuff

For

those

un-

afraid

to be

what they are

there’s a scar given

to those as brave
